I think adults SHOULD play Pokemon Go. With their kids. Gallardo like the one I saw near a PokeStop for your time:

Kinja'd!!!

Have they invented a Supercar Go app yet? No? Dammit. Between the parked Lambo getting photographed and the Mazdaspeed6 someone did a redline clutch dump in, it was a good night for car spotting... BUT

I had my nose buried in my phone looking for pocket monsters.

Why? Because my kids liked it.

We’ve walked around our town before, but not like this. They were excited. They wanted to go further and further. We walked about 5k+ worth (according to the eggs I hatched) and they still wanted more!

They are 7 and 10, and are not SUPER into Pokemon, but are aware of it, have seen a few cartoons, and even have the Monopoly game.

I was 16 or 17 when Pokemon were all the rage, and had a younger cousin who was into it, but I was all about cars and pus.... cars.

But of course like anything super popular you get to learn some things by proxy, TV, movies, toy stores, an ex-girlfriend who is stuck being a kid at heart, etc.

So yeah I was excited to get some of the OG Pokemons: A Bulbasaur, a Squirtle..... still looking for Pikachu and a Jigglypuff (as thats as far as my knowledge of them goes) but my girls were happy every time my phone vibrated and a new (or the 10th of a certain type I already had) digital monster appeared on my phone’s screen. They aww’d when it broke free, and clapped when they were caught. GOTCHA!

We walked for nearly two hours, stopped at the park twice, hit up every PokeStop (10 in total) twice, saw the aforementioned cars (I hope the dipshit in the MS6 broke something showing off), and had a really good time.

As a dad of two girls its hard to have bonding moments when they’re still all about dance and dolls and makeup and other “girly” things.

To find something we can all enjoy is a blessing, and I don’t care what people joke about a 36 year old flinging balls at cute (and sometimes ugly... PINSIR) animals on his phone screen. It makes us happy.

Now about that Supercar app.....

So there’s a church outside my neighborhood that’s a pokestop. I usually hit it when I leave for work and return home - pull into the parking lot, launch app, collect, leave.

Tonight I pull in about 10pm.. obviously he parking lot is empty.... Except or the LEO cruiser I pull up next to that was hiding in the shadows. Gave them a wave, did my thing and bounced.

Makes me wonder how many times they’d seen that tonight?

It’s also acceptable for quasi-adults like myself to play. Yes, I’m registered to vote, yes I’m registered for the draft, yes I’m tried as an adult, BUT, I can spend virtually all my money on something dumb and my parents will still begrudgingly pay for my food.

I will still refuse to play.

We just got this swing set / climber and my kids are stoked to go play on it.

Kinja'd!!!

Give it a few years and it'll be rotted out and they won't want to play on it anyway.

Pokemon was for nerds. The cool kids like Star Wars. Wait what.

Let’s say for example someone wanted to create a Poke stop. Let’s say this stop was to be in a place to make local corporate security nervous. Could this be accomplished?

Thankfully with the next update stops can be submitted for addition. Guess who’s going to every strip club in town

Some of them are already in there, including one that isn’t far from my house.

Kinja'd!!!

There’s also a gym nearby named “Giant Cocks”. To be fair, they do sell gigantic metal roosters, but that isn’t a thing that I’d want my kids focusing on. Fortunately, the only way to get to that gym is by driving, so it’s easy to avoid.

The game is full of stops that are, ummm, questionable. I wonder when they will let players tag the questionable ones for review.

They really underestimated the power of mobility in this game. I took my son out for a round on Saturday. We hit 30 or more stops and 8 or 9 gyms within an hour.

I’m glad that we don’t live in a big city. I did discover that the church next to my son’s school has a stop and a gym. I think the teachers are going to have some issues this fall.

Most of our stops are sculptures and fountains downtown. One gym is at the VFW which is probably a bad idea (get off my lawn), but one of the stops is at the library, which is a good idea.

The bulk of the stops near my office are sculptures and fountains as well. We do have two gyms here, both at large fountains. There are quite a few stops at local post offices, churches and parks. Some of the stranger locations around here are a storage place (with a post office inside), a cabinet-maker’s shop, and an antique store. Also the ones I mentioned before - a former strip club that is now a bar, and the mexican import place with giant metal chickens.

I have to do more exploring, I literally only looked at what’s on the way to and from work, and around my house.

There’s a stop at the village’s water tower (which I couldn’t get to work, thanks Verizon GPS satellites) and a Meat shop.

Then there was this near grandma’s house:

We did a bit of wandering. My son had a workshop on Saturday that was close to my office. After I picked him up, we made a pass through my office park and then wandered from there. He navigated us through several neighborhoods I’d never seen before.

“Shoot Water in the Air Thingy.” I’ve seen something like that somewhere before. Funny. My favorite so far is this:

A neighbor family we know was looking after a total of 9 wonderful little ones, all under 9 the other evening (from 2 different families).
The Dad took 5 little boys out hunting the P/Gos all evening, and wore them all out before taking them home for an early bedtime.
Don't say that this game is evil incarnate; it is a blessing when properly used!
